Independent senator Fatima Payman says Prime Minister Anthony Albanese offered her an extra parliamentary staffer if she backed a Senate motion to cut short debate on a package of bills that included Labor’s migration reforms. Payman says she declined the offer and a second proposal to sit out the vote. The prime minister’s office declined to discuss the private meeting.
