
Chris Bowen MP is the federal Member for McMahon in Western Sydney and Australia’s Minister for Climate Change and Energy. A member of the Australian Labor Party, he entered the House of Representatives in 2004 after almost a decade in local government, including serving as Mayor of Fairfield. During his parliamentary career, he has held several senior portfolios, including Assistant Treasurer, Minister for Human Services, Minister for Immigration and Citizenship and Treasurer. As Climate Change and Energy Minister, he is responsible for Australia’s energy transition, emissions-reduction policies and response to climate change.
Raised in Western Sydney and based in Smithfield, Chris has represented the communities of McMahon since the electorate was created in 2010. He has also served as Shadow Treasurer and briefly as acting Opposition Leader, and has written several books examining Australian politics, economic leadership and democracy.
