Dr Andrew Leigh MP is the Federal Labor Member for Fenner in the ACT and, as at 11 November 2025, serves as Assistant Minister for Productivity, Competition, Charities and Treasury. First elected to Federal Parliament in 2010, he previously worked as a professor of economics at the Australian National University. He holds a PhD in Public Policy from Harvard University and graduated from the University of Sydney with first-class honours in Arts and Law. His academic background and research into inequality, economic opportunity and community connections inform his approach to public policy and parliamentary life.
Leigh’s ministerial responsibilities cover improving productivity, strengthening competition and supporting Australia’s charities, alongside his work representing the Fenner community. He is also an author whose books explore economics, inequality and community building, including Battlers and Billionaires, Randomistas and The Shortest History of Economics. Away from Parliament, he is an enthusiastic endurance runner and triathlete, and hosts The Good Life, a podcast about living a happier, healthier and more ethical life. For this Reddit AMA, Dr Leigh joins the community to answer questions about economic reform, Labor policy, charities, life in Parliament, or what keeps him going through an ultramarathon.
