Dr Gordon Reid MP is the Federal Labor Member for Robertson on the New South Wales Central Coast, first elected to Parliament in 2022. A proud Wiradjuri man who grew up at Umina Beach, he brings strong local connections and experience as an emergency department doctor to his parliamentary work. He completed his medical degree with distinction at the University of Newcastle before undertaking training in regional hospitals. As at 27 October 2025, he continues to practise in a local emergency department alongside his parliamentary duties, maintaining a direct connection with the healthcare pressures facing patients and medical staff.
Reid’s priorities include improving access to healthcare, supporting local jobs and small businesses, addressing housing affordability, and ensuring roads and infrastructure keep pace with the Central Coast’s needs. His parliamentary committee work includes health, aged care and disability, intelligence and security, and the implementation of the National Redress Scheme. Drawing on his medical background and community experience, he advocates for practical improvements to people’s daily lives while protecting the region’s environment and coastal lifestyle. For this Reddit AMA, Dr Reid joins the community to answer questions about health policy, Labor’s priorities, issues facing Robertson, and what it is like to combine medicine with representing a community in Canberra.
