In the year 2000, Advance Institute of Business General Manager Craig Hill worked as Director of Studies (TAFE) at Wadja Wadja High School on Woorabinda Aboriginal Community in Central Queensland.
Woorabinda is located 170 km southwest of Rockhampton in Queensland. It had a population of about 3,000 at the time, 99% of whom were Aboriginal Australians.
The project was a partnership between Woorabinda Aboriginal Council, TAFE Queensland and TAFE NSW. The courses were open to high school students and adult members of the community aged over 16. For the high school students, it made up part of their Secondary School Curriculum.
The courses delivered were the nationally recognised Certificates I, II and III in Literacy and Numeracy, Certificate II in Business, Certificate III in Horticulture and courses in Life Skills and Aboriginal Art. The school also delivered the Queensland Secondary School Curriculum.
This was just one of many Aboriginal organisations that Advance Institute of Business have worked with over the past 28 years.
