This week, Advance Institute of Business Trainer Craig Hill continued his journey teaching the Skills for Education and Employment program (SEE) at Sunnybank Aged Care Facility in Brisbane’s southern suburbs. The training is conducted for Registered Training Organisation Navitas.
In the third week, the topics covered included giving advice, polite responses to advice, empathy, PTSD and the traits of a caregiver. These are all skills and knowledge that are needed when working in aged care and individual support.
The Skills for Education and Employment program (SEE) helps employees get the skills they need for the job they want through stronger reading, writing, maths and computer skills.
SEE training is tailored to the abilities and goals of the employees and is delivered flexibly right across Australia, both part-time and full-time, from metropolitan and regional areas, through to remote communities.
We used student discussion, printed worksheets, workplace documents and forms, videos, audios recordings and PowerPoints, presented on a widescreen TV connected to a laptop.
The course is presented on Tuesday afternoons, and repeated on Saturday mornings, in three hour sessions for twelve weeks. This gives the students the flexibility to decide what day they want to attend, based on their work rosters and private lives.
There was great enthusiasm from all the students, and we all look forward to next week’s session.
